Great Best Man Speeches: General Advice

Be yourself. You are choosen by the groom to be the best man! This is the first thing you should remember and be confident. This best man speech is going to be your speech, not anyone else's. Do not mimic any heard speech in you mind because people sense it. Use the proper words and show your self to the audience.

Be aware of the time and keep it lightly short. This is almost non-negotiable except you want people to bear you endless ramble in the day that is not about you. 3 minutes -- without a pause at a relaxing speed -- would be the average length for most of the best man speeches. Well.. I have seen several very successful 5 minutes ones but never for one longer than 7 minutes. Even it's funny enough but actually anything longer than 5 miniutes tend to get peoples tiresome.

Rehearse before the day. I usually practice in front of the mirror. It helps you to see what people will see. You want to do so until you feel comfortable and get relaxed about being watched, even by yourself. It doesn't mean you have to get rid of the paper and having a card in hand is not the unspeakble. If you decide to read, do practice reading. Pay attention to the way you make eye contact to the audience.
